Mr. Jimmy

Jimmy Fallon and myself, circa 2002

After reading about Melisa's run-in with Gavin Rossdale the other day, I got to thinking about celebrity encounters. My freshmen year at NYU meeting/stalking famous people was like a hobby. It's what my friends and I did instead of rushing.

I had been in love with Jimmy Fallon since he first popped up on SNL when I was teenager. I was pretty sure we were going to get married, so this was a big moment. What I remember most is that he smelled nice -- like cinnamon. Look how young and happy we both were.

Yeah, it was a different time. Now Jimmy's a big fancy talk show host, and I wear brown eyeshadow instead of purple. Any fun celebrity encounters out there? Do tell.

  1. the nicest celeb i ever met is Rob Thomas. i met him backstage at an Edwin McCain concert (Edwin's drummer is a friend of mine). He walked up and introduced himself as "Rob" and I was weak in the knees. so very sweet.

the coolest person i ever met was june carter cash - not too long before she died. she was amazing.

  2. My Dad is a costume designer on movies so i've had some random encounters on set. The weirdest one though has to be going to the cinema with Bruce Willis. Crazy, eh. And I had a whole conversation with Tom Hanks. Random times!

  3. everytime I go to NY, I cross my fingers hoping to see a celebrity. My last trip, we were sitting on some road barricades next to the sidewalk and I make direct eye contact with some guy and his dog, and it turned out to be Munch from Law & Order SVU. I'm not sure of his real name, but maybe he kept staring back at me hoping I wouldn't make a scene.

When I was in high school I met the All American Rejects and I almost hyperventilated. Yeah, how cool am I...

  5. Great photograph! I spent my first year at NYU doing the same -- and it was pretty easy since I was in the theatre program there. Eventually, I got to the point where if I saw someone famous on the street, I'd smile and nod slightly and just let them go about their day. They usually smiled back.

    When were you at NYU?

  6. I think the closest I've ever come to a celebrity encounter was when I saw Oprah run by at the Washington D.C. marathon back when she ran it for her 40th birthday. Eh.

  11. So cool! I adore Jimmy Fallon.

I've met lots of local celebrities here in Seattle - news anchors, athletes, etc. but my best celebrity encounter was when I lived in Santa Barbara in my early 20s and I met Steve Martin! It was awesome.

  13. Hello! We must be kindred spirits... first of all, you love Savannah but more importantly, you love Jimmy Fallon! :) Great minds think alike.

I'm honored that you stopped by my blog- I'm brand new on the scene so I've got a lot to learn, but I really appreciate your sweet comment. It is wonderful that you've been able to write for a publication like Southern Flourish- that would be a dream come true for me!! Please feel free to email me and share any advice/hints/tips... I am learning from writers like you!!

Thanks again for stopping by over at Ten June!

  14. HA HA - this picture is awesome! You guys seriously look like a couple in love - ha!!

My celeb list is about 2 people long and bor-ing. My brother has the coolest job though at a production company, and he recently got on with MTV as a freelancer. He's met Kathy Griffin, Oprah (who totally had a CRUSH on him, and I was so jealous), Bill Clinton, Paula Deen (also had a crush on my brother - again, jealous), Justin Bieber, Usher, etc. etc. etc. So through 6 degrees of separation, I've met a ton of famous people! ha!

  15. The past few years, we have been in 'foodie heaven' and have been super lucky to have met (by surprise- in their own stores!) both Tyler Florence and Michael Chiarello. When we went to Napa again the summer after we met Michael (first name basis:), we visited his restaurant that had opened during the year. He was there as well, and walked my kids (holding my daughter's hand!) through his kitchen- a little private tour! Definitely my kind of 'celebrity sighting'... :)

  18. How fun! I'm a senior at NYU and my friends and I have spent the last three years doing the exact same thing. We meet the SATC girls while they were filming on West 4th. I've also run into Katie Holmes & Suri on numerous occasions!
