Puppy Love

I got in some quality puppy time with my parents' new dog over Christmas, and now I'm desperate for one of my own. Although, thoughts of fluffy, furry cuddles are waging war with the reality of housebreaking in a 26th floor apartment. At least for now, I can see sweet Tupelo every so often. Have a great weekend! May you be as happy as a dog on the beach.

  1. How precious! There's nothing quite as joyful as a dog on the beach. If you're hankering for some canine companionship, may I suggest adopting an adult dog that is already house broken? We adopted a wonderful dog in September; they estimated his age at 7 but we think he's younger. He joined our 13-year-old dog and they get along great. They both love to go for long hikes. While puppies are awesome, they do require LOTS of work. Older dogs can be the perfect solution, and they don't get adopted as readily as puppies. It feels great to save a life too!

  2. Great point, Claudia! We're looking at different options. Jonah and I both like big dogs and we're also questioning whether New York City is the best environment for them. Lots to think about!

  3. OH my goodness, he is SO CUTE! i "heart" dogs so much and really want one of my own. i feel your pain, though... we just moved from a house, where we were long-term dog sitting (a year) for a gorgeous sweet amazing rotweiler. we just moved now to an apartment (the dog's owners are back taking care of him again) and i miss him SO much. but i don't feel an apartment is conducive to having a dog (at least not for us). although i do like the idea of getting an adult housebroken dog, that's a great suggestion.

  4. Adorable dog! I would also love one of our own, but right now we are planning to move to the Middle East, so that is in no way a good environment for a puppy... :D And your pictures are awesome too! :)

  6. Tupelo is seriously adorable! And dogs are so funny on the beach--we always joke that once dogs paws hit the sand--it is like a shot of espresso! Haha. I know you guys must of had a blast!

  9. Just so cute! I love dogs! What kind of dog is he?

I agree with My Little Bungalow... I adopted my dog Mille when she was three and before we'd ever met, my husband had adopted his dog Penny when she was also around three. Both girls were potty trained.

You miss out on the sweet puppy phase, but I don't think it diminishes any love you have for them. Plus you save a dog life, which feels so good. (I can hardly watch those ASPCA adopt a pet commercials... makes me want to adopt ALL the dogs.)

  13. Tupelo is crazy cute! And it is totally manageable to have a bigger dog in an NYC apartment. Bo is 50 pounds and has adjusted to life in a smaller space. But I would suggest finding a doggy daycare nearby. :)
