We got back last night from our short but sweet trip to San Francisco. It was so nice to just be in vacation mode, explore a city and eat too much. The weather was perfect for the most part, although we did get a taste of that famous fog on Sunday night. We stayed at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel on top of Nob Hill, visited the major sites, did some shopping, ate amazing food and walked and walked. These legs aren't used to those San Francisco hills. Ouch. Tomorrow, all about the food!

Eat Local
One of the restaurants where I ate when I was home was Local 11 Ten. It's in a restored 1950s bank building in downtown Savannah near beautiful Forsyth Park. They rely on locally sourced meat, produce and seafood, and the dishes are thoughtfully and beautifully prepared. Tasty cocktails, Vidalia onion soup, a perfect pork chop and peanut butter ice cream were the highlights for me. The menu also has a create-your-own entree section, where you choose the protein, sauce and side, and above the restaurant is a rooftop bar adorably titled Perch. If you're ever in Savannah, I'd recommend paying this place a visit.

Southern Sandwich Trio
In Savannah, we had a lunch one day consisting of three classic southern sandwiches: tomato, pimento cheese and egg salad. My dad whipped everything up from scratch, and then we hauled it all to my grandma and grandad's house. I love pimento cheese, but the tomato sandwich with a basil leaf and pesto mayonnaise was my favorite. Round cut-out sandwiches hold a special place in my heart. Served with coleslaw, pickles, potato chips and sparkling pink lemonade, it all made for a perfect picnic-style lunch. And we had cookies for dessert because in the South, you've gotta have a taste of something sweet, even at lunchtime.

Weekend in Photos: Savannah Style
I got back from Savannah last night. It was three days that went by much too fast, but was such sweet, precious time with my mom, dad and grandparents in the city that will always be home. My heart (and stomach) are full.

Weekending
We're heading to Savannah tonight for a three-day weekend spent with my family, and next weekend, we're sneaking in a trip to San Francisco tacked on to the end of one of Jonah's business trips. All this traveling makes me wish I had one of these cute, sparkly weekend bags from deux lux. It might make packing more fun. I hope you all have lovely weekends in store!

Chewy Chocolate Cookies
If I'm at a bakery and in the mood for a cookie, I go for the chocolate on chocolate every time. I'm always drawn in by their glossy, crackly tops, and the fact that they're sort of like brownies in cookies' clothing doesn't hurt. I'd never tried making my own, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the results of this Martha Stewart recipe. I followed it exactly and just threw in some chopped walnuts for a little extra crunch. I liked the cookies best fresh out of the oven for that extra gooey, brownie-like taste, but they were also good days later. As is the case with most of my favorite desserts, a glass of milk comes in handy.
