Hot Air

I spent far too much time on HotAirBalloon.com yesterday trying to determine which hot air balloon festival is most convenient and closest to New York City. I've always wanted to see one of these festivals up close, and I'm hoping 2012 is the year. I have a feeling that no one will want to come with me, but it's important to check little things like this off the life list. Oddly enough, I don't have a desire to go up in one. I'd rather just take pictures from the ground. Have you ever been to a hot air balloon festival or taken a balloon ride?

  1. I hope you can find a festival, too! My parents took me to a festival when I was really young, but sadly I don't remember it...

  2. We take Emma to one here in Texas every year. It's at dusk, so it's pretty magical.

  8. Interestingly enough--my parents used to hot air balloon ride a lot--I have been up in the balloons several times--all as a child. It is pretty amazing. Makes me realize now that I would love to go again!!

  9. My aunt wanted to fly in a hot air balloon for her birthday, so we all pitched in and got her that as a gift. She said it was great, but the only scary thing is trying to land.

  11. In Kenya you can fly over a game park and look at the animals. I would like to see a ballooning festival. Isn't there a good one in WA in the fall?

  12. Can you believe I've never even thought about this? Now it's got a spot on my list–but I think I'll stay on the ground.

  13. One of the largest hot air balloon festivals takes place in my hometown every Memorial Day weekend - Freedom Weekend Aloft. I've ridden in one once and was utterly terrified, but it was pretty cool. What's even better though is sitting on your front porch rocking chair and watching all the balloons fill the sky at dusk. Gorgeous!

  14. A few years ago, a friend and I stumbled on a festival when we were in Rochester, NY. It was awesome! I didn't ride in one, but I definitely want to. I hope you fine once closer than Rochester!

  17. There used to be one in the town near where my parents live. I got to go once or twice and one year got to join on of the groups that chases the balloons.
